A very good morning to Mrs Nathan and my fellow classmates. Tke topic of my speech today is ' The Advantages and Disadvantages of Examinations '.
We come to school to learn. To measure how much we know, a system is devised to test our knowledge. This system is made oup of tests and examinations. One of the advantages of having examinations is that by testing we know how well the students understand and know the subjectss they we learnt. A teacher will be in a better position to impart the required knowledge tu us.
Another advantage is that with examinations, we will be forced to study wheater we like it or not. For those who are good in their studies, they will work harder to improve their grades. Imagine a school without examinations. Students will be left to do as they like. In the end, we would be like an uneducated generations who have wasted precious years in school doing nothing much.
But examinations also have their disadvantages. With examinations, many student will learn their facts and figures by heart. This is not the correct method of learning. Many students will memorize information without understanding them. Learning without understanding is unhealthy. It will not create a thinking society.
Another disadvantage is that examinations are not true reflections of students' abilities. A student who passes with the best grades in an examinations through learning by heart may not be as good as one who did not do well in the same examinations due to factors like sickness.
Finally, examinations do not test on moral values.
Thank you..
